Title: IGEL updates Windows Embedded firmware and expands range of functions
Post by: RealWire on December 17, 2014, 08:13:39 PM
IGEL Technology has updated its firmware for its Windows Embedded Standard 7 thin clients (version 3.09.100). The update allows IT administrators to use the "Secure Mode" function during VNC shadowing on IGEL Windows thin clients. Together with the latest IGEL Universal Management Suite (from 4.7.110), this feature offers even more possibilities when it comes to meeting company compliance requirements. When the Secure Mode is activated, all VNC sessions within the network are logged. IP addresses, users, the date and the time are recorded in a log file. In Secure Mode, the UMS Server also initiates the provision of mirroring via an SSL tunnel. This prevents client-to-client connections as well as unauthorized access. The VNC Secure Mode can be enabled manually and can also be used selectively for mixed operation or for special user groups with higher security levels.

On the client side, IGEL has integrated the Citrix Receiver 4.1 and the latest VMware Horizon Client 3.1 into the new firmware. For Citrix environments, the update includes support for the new StoreFront 2.0. The client also provides support for Citrix HDX3D Pro. As a result, IGEL guarantees its customers a future-proof system, which can cope with the needs of extremely demanding graphics and CAD applications.

For users of VMware Horizon, remote apps with system tray functions are now available. The new Horizon Client also makes it possible to use basic USB 3.0 interface functions.

The Quest vWorkspace Client (8.0.3) provides Windows Server 2012 R2, as well as Windows 8.1 support. Support for Lync 2013 environments is provided by the Lync VDI Plug-In now also included in the firmware.

An improvement has also been made to the central administration of Internet Explorer security settings. When carrying out centralized administration straight from the IGEL setup, a further feature allowing HTTPS-verified server queries to be requested per zone has been added.
