Title: Reverse Proxy Integrated: gateprotect to Release Software Version 9.5
Post by: RealWire on September 23, 2014, 04:50:04 PM
gateprotect GmbH, the internationally acting manufacturer of security solutions and a subsidiary of the Rohde & Schwarz group, now offers its UTM firewall solutions in version 9.5 with an enhanced feature set. The new integrated reverse proxy functionalities allow for additional protection of the internal company network by securing the access to internal servers from the Internet reliably.

With software version 9.5 that has been developed in Germany, gateprotect has implemented extensive reverse proxy functionalities into the powerful UTM firewalls for the SMB market. By means of these features, it is easy to set and manage dedicated filtering rules such as load balancing guidelines.

The reverse proxy is a network component that procures resources for a client from one or several servers. Thus, several internal servers and services may be made available over the same external IP address. The reverse proxy directly receives all queries from the Internet and forwards them to the target systems based on guidelines. External users only get access to the reverse proxy - everything beyond remains invisible and protected.

Thus, a reverse proxy provides reliable protection for the internal company network. Internal resources may be enabled as needed without opening any potential gateways for intruders.

The new reverse proxy features of gateprotect version 9.5 at a glance:

Load balancing: With the reverse proxy, incoming queries may be distributed to several web servers.
Failure-safety and optimization of performance: To assure high availability of a website even in case of massive data traffic, incoming queries may be distributed to several web servers.
Forwarding: The reverse proxy may filter queries in a targeted manner and redirect them to internal servers accordingly. For example, mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets may be redirected to pages that have been set up especially for such devices. Forwarding is possible based on URLs and based on headers. Furthermore, HTTPS enhancements may be implemented.
