CloudBees’ Platform as a Service enables Choose Digital to launch innovative digital store quickly and cost effectively

Paris, France – May 7, 2013 – CloudBees, Inc., the Java Platform as a Service (PaaS) innovation leader, today announced that Choose Digital used the CloudBees PaaS to develop its digital marketplace for loyalty programs three to five times faster and at under 10 percent of the cost it would have spent using an Infrastructure as a Service solution or setting up its own on-premise IT infrastructure.

Using the CloudBees Platform, Choose Digital created a digital marketplace that enables companies to quickly launch a digital offering within their customer loyalty programs featuring the latest in music, movies, TV, eBooks and audiobooks. Customers integrate the marketplace with their own reward programs, allowing them to acquire digital content and retain full control over branding and customer/usage data.

Choose Digital accomplished its goal of beating competitors to market and launched a service that can accommodate surges in traffic and scale for rapid growth.

“Our goal was to be first to market, so we needed to be up and running quickly,” says Mario Cruz, co-Founder and CTO, Choose Digital. “As a result, our guiding philosophy has been to focus exclusively on our core business. If something is not central to our business, we don’t want to do it - and setting up and maintaining a Java IT infrastructure is not core to our business. Our lead architect put it bluntly, ‘With the CloudBees Platform, we can spend our time bringing our product to market instead of spending it putting infrastructure together.’”

Utilising the CloudBees Platform, Choose Digital avoided incurring the costs to employ an operations staff of the 8 to 10 workers that Cruz estimates would have been needed to set up and maintain the IT infrastructure. Additionally, adds Cruz, “Compared to setting up our own hardware or using an Infrastructure as a Service solution, our development was three to five times faster with CloudBees. For us, those alternatives would also have been 10 to 15 times the cost of CloudBees.”

Choose Digital initially started with another PaaS provider, but soon switched to CloudBees because of its superior support for Continuous Cloud Delivery, powered by Jenkins cloud services. Using Continuous Cloud Delivery, development teams can quickly develop and deploy applications, push frequent incremental updates and eliminate the friction caused by provisioning, maintaining and administering complex hardware and software infrastructure.

“We use continuous delivery with CloudBees, enabling every developer to deliver incremental functionality while being accountable for his or her own code,” said Cruz. “As a result, the effort of each developer is aligned to the goals of the company and that keeps us lean, focused and fast.”

Choose Digital is already in production with digital marketplaces for United Airlines and Marriott Hotels, as well as several other enterprise partners. A new client digital marketplace is being released every month.

“Choose Digital is a great example of a company that has really reaped the benefits of Continuous Cloud Delivery,” said Sacha Labourey, founder and CEO, CloudBees. “Getting to market in a swift, cost-effective manner was critical to Choose Digital’s business proposition. We’re thrilled to see how cloud services provided by CloudBees were able to accelerate the software delivery process for Choose Digital across the entire application lifecycle.”
