ExecEvent unveils Tape Audit Europe initial findings at Tape Summit

IP EXPO, London, UK – October 18th 2012 – The ExecEvent has announced interim findings of the first European Tape Audit at the first European Tape Summit held at IP EXPO in London this week.

In the European Tape Audit 2012, storage professionals from 15 countries across EMEA are being surveyed on tape usage trends in backup, archive, disaster recovery and data security.

Key findings so far include:

80% of IT professionals surveyed currently archive data

There is an almost even split between the use of file- and backup-based archives

40% of the respondents have over 50% of their data stored on tape

“The Tape Audit Europe shows clearly that tape is alive and kicking, delivering useful long-term storage capacity for critical data. Many businesses have over 50% of their archive data stored on tape,” commented Stephen O’Donnell, technology consultant and analyst. O’Donnell moderated a lively panel discussion at the end of the inaugural European Tape Summit in London yesterday.

The Tape Summit 2012 brings together vendors and selected media delegates for a complete analysis of the current state of this $2.3+ billion annual market. Participants share details of new software application functionality as well as the continually evolving hardware functionality that is positioning tape to enjoy a healthy future and growth in many markets.

The Tape Summit at IP EXPO included representatives of tape industry vendors from: Active Archive Alliance, BDT, HP, IBM, Quantum, SpectraLogic and Tandberg Data.
