Title: Massive Telco Growth Opportunities Surround CDN at CDN World Summit
Post by: RealWire on August 28, 2012, 07:51:05 PM
London, 28 August 2012 – Increasing numbers of operators are launching CDN initiatives and are paving the way for new developing trends as ‘cloudified’ CDNs and federations enter the market - increasing market share and stimulating continued growth. CDN has never been more vibrant and as such 2012’s CDN World Summit will explore how these technologies can work together to improve the speed of content delivery in virtualised networks.

CDNs are a hot topic in the industry today as network operators take ownership of last mile network resources and develop their relationships with their end users. Significant growth opportunities in emerging markets are also a key consideration, with Latin America featuring prominently in the number of new telco CDNs. Equally, Russian and Middle Eastern markets have advanced considerably with the emergence of the first telco CDN services in these regions. Many of these regional incumbent telecom operators will feature in keynotes at the event, including Etisalat, Saudi Telecom, China Telecom and others.

Senior Analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media, Chris Drake, sees the huge potential in the CDN market for telecoms providers: “CDNs have a number of associated benefits including the potential for improved traffic management, a heightened quality of experience for online customers and the ability to deliver cloud-based enterprise services. Already we’ve seen a 69%* increase in the number of telcos that have launched their own CDN, up on figures at the end of 2010.

“Emerging markets offer considerable opportunities for CDNs. A combination of rising income levels, rapidly expanding populations and advancements in broadband technology are set to fuel explosive demand for online content among emerging market consumers.”

All CDN providers (telco and traditional CDNs alike) will look to utilise their networks and increase returns for value added services like e-commerce, content management in the cloud, live streaming, payments, online retail, and financial services. Additional revenue streams will also be discussed during the special focus day “Cloud, Mobile & CDNS” that will look to extend the reach of digital content and manage big data in both fixed and mobile environments successfully.

Transparent caching, federation, CDN business models, monetisation, leveraging multiplatform services and next generation CDN development are also key topics of focus in the agenda. Headlining speakers include senior representatives from Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, Telefonica, BBC, BSkyB, Mashable, Amazon and many others.

To date, the list of sponsors for the event includes: Alcatel-Lucent, Akamai, Cisco, Huawei, EdgeCast, Mirror Image Internet, Edgeware, Ericsson, Equinix, Oversi, Qwilt, Verivue, Agama Technologies, Broadpeak, Skytide, Wowza Media Systems, PeerApp and Jet-Stream.

The event will take place at the Thistle Marble Arch Hotel in London on 2-4 October 2012.
