Learning About Payment Processors And What To Take Into Consideration When Choosing One
 by: Dan Farrell

Payment processors are very important to your business, as they are how you will receive payment for your products or services. Your first thing to do is to set up a merchant account using one of these services.

Defining a Merchant Account: It's a system set up on your website to accept payments. This permits your buyers to pay online via your web page. It's important that you provide a secure payment page where buyers can use a credit card to purchase something. A wide variety of merchant accounts are available to you. It is smart to give your customers many choices in the type of payment processor.

You may ask, what are the different fees involved? There are a lot of various different sorts of payment systems. Some charge monthly for the service, and others will charge you to set up an account and then a fee per transaction. Before entering into any agreement with a company, be sure you look into their policies. Some companies have hidden fees that you won't know about until you have started. Still others will try to bind you into a 6 month or 1 year term. Watch for signs of these factors, as you never want your business to be in jeopardy due to your payment processor.

Different processors: For online business, Paypal, Clickbank and 2checkout are cost effective, easy to use and easy to set up on a regular business website. These 3 payment systems can be set up with very little knowledge of HTML. These are known as third party systems.

So how do these systems work? They will take your buyers to their secure page to buy your products and services. This means that it is not necessary for you to set up a secure page yourself. Now there are some advantages to using 3rd party processors.

1. They offer ease of shopping for your customer because they accept credit cards. Huge amounts of transactions occur online, and you need to be able to take advantage of that. 2. They all have tutorials and instructions on how to set them up, and you don't have to use just one, but can have a number of them. 3. If you have any problems with fraud etc. they will handle the situations for you. 4. You can use your own bank account for receiving payment.

Setting up a payment processor:

Visit the home page of any of these payment processors and you can see their tutorials and instructions on set up There are many different tools offered.

Shopping carts are a good way to go when you have many products you are offering on your site. Shopping carts are a virtual grocery cart. Shopping carts are convenient and will encourage multiple buying. This system will work well for online stores and sites with multiple related products like hosting companies..

There is always the positive and negative aspect to any processor system. I recommend Paypal as it is fast in transferring money directly to your account.

Clickbank is a good choice to have an affiliate program in place in your business. It costs a bit to set up (around $50) but they pay every two weeks and are very reliable.

2Checkout has been used by many marketers. They have a very good reputation. All will charge you a fee or percentage of sales, so check with each for the best rates.
