Workbooks.com joins forces with schools to fill ICT knowledge gap

Ian Moyse appointed to School Speakers programme as technology expert

30 August 2012: With over 1 million young people aged 16-24 currently out of work[1] and a fall in university applications this year, Workbooks.com is working with schools to help inspire young people to pursue a career in the evolving and growing IT sector.

Ian Moyse, sales director at cloud CRM provider Workbooks.com has been selected as an approved speaker on cloud computing, IT security and all things technology, by Claire Young (former BBC Apprentice finalist) for her School Speakers programme.

As the first specialist cloud speaker on the books of the agency, Ian comments: “Although recent youth unemployment figures are in fact down 4,000 on the previous quarter, it still begs the question why the education sector and those in industry can’t work together to make school leavers and graduates more employment-ready. Technology now touches an incredible amount of business roles, not purely those in an IT capacity, and the need for ICT skills is higher than ever before in business.”

“It is therefore vital that tomorrow’s workers are armed with the most up-to-date information about technology advances, including cloud, mobile computing and social media. A strong awareness of IT security is also essential. Users remain the weakest link, often falling foul of cyber attacks due to a lack of education regarding the risks in this area,” he continues.

Claire Young, MD of School Speakers comments, “It is great to continue to expand the range of expert speakers we offer to schools. ICT is a key area of everyday life, and there is growing interest in ways that it can be incorporated into classroom learning.  Therefore, it is essential that industry supports schools and young people. We are delighted to have such a strong industry ambassador joining our team of valued speakers and passing on valuable knowledge.”

With over 25 years experience in the IT sector - nine of these specialising in security and over 23 years of channel experience - Ian is well placed to educate and enlighten students on today’s technology hot topics. As part of his role at Workbooks, Ian is also championing young talent, with the recent recruitment of two graduates into the sales team.

Founded by ex BBC Apprentice candidate Claire Young, School Speakers was set up in 2010, with the aim of connecting British schools with the best of the UK’s inspiring, motivational and informative speakers. Ian joins over 165 speakers whose expertise ranges from the creative and science arenas, through to sports and teen motivational speakers.
