Up North Media launches upnorthtimes.com, where the users are given the power to be journalists. The site enables anyone who registers to create subjects and gather or analyse information, media and updates based on current news.

"Over the past few years we have witnessed the influence of crowdsourcing on the internet, and we thought it would be a good idea to bring that to the news platform. That picture that article mentioned, that video presentation of some new technology, or other relevant information - it's out there, someone just has to find it and post it for others to see. We aim to become the go-to website for people who want this information organised in an efficient way." says Marius Holtberget, CEO.

Key features:
Activity is built around "subjects", created as a gathering page for all things relevant to a news story.

An "event list", where users can get a clear overview of the development of a subject. All updates of a news story are listed chronologically so it's easy to build an understanding of how the story unfolds.

The ability to create several discussion threads within one subject, so users can focus on several topics within the page.

An elaborate poll system. Because users are required to fill in their gender, age, political leanings, religion, marital status and country when registering, all polls are browsable by these categories. Users can choose to hide this information, and we are bound by the Terms of Service not to share this information with third parties.

Subscription to subjects, tags and discussion threads. These are updated in the easy to access subscription feed.
