•         Early deployment of Juniper Networks® PTX Series Packet Transport Switch
•         Optimised network architecture to deliver peerless capacity and performance
•         Supports unprecedented growth in Internet traffic

To address the increase in high bandwidth, latency sensitive traffic flowing through The London Internet Exchange (LINX), Telindus is implementing an upgrade of the organisation’s infrastructure to Juniper Networks’ PTX5000 Packet Transport Switches.

Over the last year, LINX has experienced more than 50 percent increase in peak traffic and nearly 40 percent growth in the number of 10GigE ports required to support its growing membership’s IP traffic demands. In the first quarter of 2012, this has already accelerated and is expected to be boosted further by the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games taking place over the summer.

To address this need, Telindus is working with LINX and Juniper Networks to deploy high-performance PTX5000 Packet Transport Switches into LINX’s network core. This core upgrade will enable a significant increase in the number of 10GigE ports available for its members on the Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers, which were deployed in phase one late in 2011. The deployment will also increase the capacity and speed of the core network and, at the same time, will both reduce the cost per port of core bandwidth and pave the way for 100GigE core and member capability during 2012 and beyond.

John Souter, chief executive of the London Internet Exchange, commented: “This is an important development for LINX, as it delivers a significant step up in capacity and opens up the opportunity to move into 100GigE transport. We are delighted to be working with Telindus and Juniper on this deployment. They have provided invaluable advice on the optimum architecture for the solution, and we are confident that they will support a seamless transition to the new technology, and continue providing excellent levels of network support.”

David Helfer, vice president, partners, EMEA, Juniper Networks, said: “LINX places particularly unique demands on its infrastructure, which the PTX Series can address. PTX5000 offers the highest port density and traffic throughput currently in the market, along with very low latency and a highly competitive price point for 10GigE and 100GigE ports. As the first deployment of PTX5000 in a live network, this is an exciting project for us, and we are delighted to be working with Telindus, who has demonstrated the technical expertise, project management rigour and support credentials necessary to ensure that this deployment delivers value to LINX and its membership.”

Marek Lowther, managing director, Telindus, added: “Telindus has consistently delivered innovative solutions that enable businesses to improve their performance. We were delighted to work with LINX and Juniper Networks to deliver this deployment of ground-breaking technology. We look forward to working with LINX as they roll out PTX switches in the core.
