Mobile operator avoids network upheaval and depleting customer experience through the use of reliable, accurate and timely network insight from ariesoGEO
Newbury, UK, 11th July, 2012 – Customer centric solution provider, Arieso, is working with O2 Ireland to make significant improvements to its network performance. Using location-aware technology, ariesoGEO is allowing Telefonica O2 Ireland to precisely place cell sites in areas with high network demand, optimising the performance of valuable network resources, and providing detailed insights into the network quality experienced by customers.
ariesoGEO has already helped identify specific changes in data traffic in major cities during business hours, allowing Telefonica O2 Ireland to optimise its network accordingly. Also, using real-time, location-aware performance measurements, ariesoGEO detected one particular device that had an average call drop rate of 60%. By catching the problem early, O2 Ireland was able to offer suitable feedback and advice to the device provider, minimising the threat of network disruption and delivering a much improved network experience to the customer.
“For some time our teams have faced the challenge of managing a network that is under fluctuating pressures during the day, as data hungry commuters enter and leave the larger cities,” said Jason Chandler, Department Manager for Networks at Telefonica O2 Ireland. “As smartphone adoption increases in Ireland, it is hugely important to manage the efficiency of our networks. ariesoGEO is providing us with the insight we need to accurately optimise the network to provide the best possible customer experience.”
Smartphones now account for a significant proportion of O2 Ireland’s device base and the operator expects that share to grow as it evolves its network to LTE. As a result of both developments, O2 Ireland also expects a significant increase in data traffic associated with ‘smarter’ mobile applications. While O2 Ireland prepares for greater pressure on its networks, ariesoGEO is providing the insight needed to ensure that customers receive the best possible service experience.
The need for more cell sites, necessary to bolster capacity constrained networks, is currently creating a significant investment challenge for mobile operators. Getting it wrong can be not just unprofitable, but can actually be making congestion on the network worse. ariesoGEO is enabling O2 Ireland to accurately place sites and monitor them to ensure they meet performance requirements. While the operator previously used legacy drive test methods and high level cell-based data, it now depends on ariesoGEO to accurately identify data traffic hot spots to a building level resolution, as well as data-intensive time periods on the network.
“We are delighted to be working with O2 Ireland, and are pleased that the insight we’re providing is having such a positive impact on the performance and management of the network,” said Shirin Dehghan, CEO of Arieso. “This demonstrates the value of Arieso’s unique location-aware, customer-focused approach to network performance, as simply the best way for operators to address these challenges.”
