How to adjust brightness or contrast on laptop/ notebook?

Every laptop is different therefore adjusting the brightness or contrast on your laptop may vary from the steps provided on this page. However, understanding the method of how the brightness and/or contrast are adjusted may help users be able to adjust their settings.
