Awards recognise excellence and innovation in UMA-based products and services worldwide
February 12, 2008 – Milpitas, California - UMA Today, an international consortium of companies leading the adoption of 3GPP UMA technology, today announced an independent panel of judges has selected the winners of the UMA Innovation Awards 2008.
Georges Penalver, senior executive vice president of strategic marketing for France Telecom Group, announced the winners at the awards ceremony February 12 at the Mobile World Congress happening in Barcelona.
The categories and winners of the first UMA Innovation Awards are:

• Best Dual-Mode Handset (Feature Phone): Sagem – Net&Unik bundle
• Best Dual-Mode Handset (Smart Phone): Research in Motion – Blackberry® Curve™ (8320)
• Best Client Software: Kineto Wireless – UMA Client Software
• Best Test Solution: Azimuth – FMC Performance Test Suite
INFRASTRUCTURE
• Best Infrastructure (UNC Solution): Ericsson – Mobile @ Home
• Best Infrastructure (UNC Component): Kineto – INC (IP Network Controller)
SERVICE
• Best Home Zone Service: Orange – Unik
• Best Home Zone Service Advertising/Marketing: Orange – Unik
INDUSTRY
• Most Creative Use of UMA: Vitendo – vFone 4.0
• Most Influential Company: Orange/France Telecom
The UMA Innovation Awards was judged independently by a panel of industry experts, including Peter Jarich, principal analyst with Current Analysis, Stéphane Téral, senior analyst with Infonetics Research, Anton Wahlman, analyst with Think Equity Research, and Malik Saadi, principal analyst with Informa Telecoms and Media.
Since ratification by the 3GPP, UMA technology has quickly gained popularity through worldwide deployments. Today, more than 12 operating companies have deployed UMA-based service offers and more than 30 companies have products that support UMA.
