Mobile Car Wash Money Flows
« Posted: November 05, 2007, 03:42:39 PM »

One major problem in the mobile car wash business is the abundance of cash and checks that come in from customers. If you have crews out there it can be difficult to monitor the situation to prevent employee theft. Many going into the mobile car wash or auto detailing business ask themselves; How can I set up a system to prevent theft? Who collects the money? Have other mobile car wash owners encountered the situation where their employees did the car wash and collected the money, but did not report the wash so 'pocketed the money'?

Employee theft is ramped in the United States and some believe that 33% of the labor in the country would lie to their employer if it meant they could steal $2.00 without being caught for lying or stealing. Mobile car washes are vulnerable and if you do not watch yourself they will steal from you too. So yes all owners of mobile car washes are advised to watch the case and you must control the flow of money and specifically cash, blank checks, as customers sometimes leave the "Pay to" line blank. Most money should be collected via credit card or debit and satellite processing on site.

If you are careful using the assigned work sheets and use human dynamics of employees against their will to do less and get more (i.e. steal) then you can solve this problem. The worker is paid hourly and the driver of the unit salary plus commission. If worker steals the driver will be watching. If the driver steals the worker would like to have his job and get paid more and will turn him in. You see? Humans are so predictable, no matter where they pretend to working. You should be thinking here if you are considering running a mobile car wash business. Think on it.
