What Beats in Your Heart? The Heart of Chris Gardener
« Posted: October 31, 2007, 11:43:31 AM »

"We were homeless. We were not hopeless. There's a world of difference."

These are the words that beat strongly in the heart of a man whose story of courage my family and I had the privilege of watching tonight.

His name is Chris Gardner, his story "The Pursuit of Happyness." Chris's life story demonstrates profoundly how life can hit us hard and then kick us when were down and then turn around and do it again. His response to life and it's kick is what makes him and his heart remarkable. If you've seen the movie, you know what I am talking about and if you haven't go see it so you will.

Granted, not everyone has a life like mine or Chris's or perhaps yours. And I don't know why for some, trials are almost unbearable while for others, their only trials are boredom and what to fix for dinner.

But I do know that this life is about learning and progressing. It's about finding out what were really made of. It's about finding out who we are, what we're capable of doing and what kind of raw talent we have to develop. It's about discovering our abilities and then using them so we can have an impact for good on this planet.

Have you discovered this already for yourself? Do hope, excitement, and the desire to triumph beat like a drum in your heart? Do your passion and purpose keep you going and rising with joy each morning?

Or are you rolling your eyes and thinking I have been cursed with the "Pollyanna Syndrome" and asking such questions isn't even being realistic?

Well whatever your response is, may I ask you to stop and reflect on the mantras of individuals like Chris Gardner who have found their purpose, their passion, their "sweet spot."

"The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire." ~Field Marshal Ferdinand Foch

"Find something that you love. Find that something that gets you so excited you can't wait to get out of bed in the morning."~Chris Gardner

"Without passion you don't have energy, without energy you have nothing."~Donald Trump

"Get into a line that you will find to be a deep personal interest, something you really enjoy spending twelve to fifteen hours a day working at, and the rest of the time thinking about." ~Earl Nightingale

"Nobody can be successful unless he loves his work."~David Sarnoff CEO of RCA

"Even passion, though a bad regulator, is a powerful spring."~Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm."~Ralph Waldo Emerson

"There is no greatness without a passion to be great, whether it's the aspiration of an athlete or an artist, a scientist, a parent, or a businessperson."~Anthony Robbins

I could fill volumes of books with words like these. Words that are proven by the great accomplishments of the individuals who spoke them.

So what's beating in your heart, today? How is this working for you? If you wan't something more or different you need to change your beliefs. Start by embracing -you were born for greatness; and that you a have a work to do -a work that will set your heart on fire, when you find it.

Don't worry if your not there yet; it's never to late - your chance hasn't passed. It's doesn't matter where you are on the road to discovering your purpose because I am dedicated to assisting you on your journey. It's your birthright to find your purpose and step into our sweet spot.

Today's challenge: Copy and read and start planting the mantras listed in today's post in your heart. Don't expect them to take root overnight. All good harvests take time to grow. The first step to finding and living your purpose is believing it's possible.
