One of the first things that I learned about Internet marketing, was that over 95% of your web traffic comes from search engines.
But does it really?
Believing this, I set up my first web site over 7 years ago and submitted to the search engines.
The result was....nothing, nada, zero, zilch!
What went wrong, I asked myself.
Here's what went wrong. I found out later, that you can submit to search engines all you want. If you do nothing to promote your site or your service or product, onl your own, the search engines cannot help you!
Ever since then, I have developed a new school of thought. I does not explain where 95% of your traffic comes from, it explains where 100% of your traffic comes from.
100% of your traffic comes from one source. It comes from YOUR OWN EFFORT!
I am not trying to be facitious. I am just trying to get you into the right mindset.
Let me explain further.
1. You can get traffic through the search engines, but, if you do not learn how to optimize your site, provide content for your site or get software that can help you optimize your site, among other things that you need to do, you will either never receive traffic, or not get enough to amount to a hill of beans, let alone sell your product.
2. If you use the pay-per-click method, but do not know how to set up the right headline, bid the right price and write a description that can send visitors to your site, you are wasting time and money as well. Not all pay-per-click companies are productive, so you also have to pick the one that is right for you.
3.If e-mail market, that's fine, but you also have to learn the right technique to do that as well and if you don't then you will have a little bit of a problem promoting your web site.
Your best traffic source is you, or whoever you choose to run your business.
I hope that I have made my point.
Don't get me wrong, you cannot get around the search engines when it comes to traffic, I just do not want you to think that this internet marketing thing is done my magic.
But do not be discouraged also. It is "do-able". It's just that you have to be ready to work to make it work.
Now, if you are new to Internet marketing, my advice is simple.
Study each marketing tool carefully and decide which is best for YOU. And my word of caution is this: beware of marketers on the internet that sell you a product. Make sure that the product works, and it is best for you and your style of marketing. And make sure that It will help your business.
They want to sell a product. You want to help your business. Make sure that both parties are satisfied before you buy that product.
Also experiment with different methods of advertising a promotions.
You just might find that you can master more than just one form and do them well.
Be an aggressive marketer and find and focus on the way that is right for you as and individual.
Be determined and patient and you will find at least some success in marketing your product online.
How successful you become, believe it or not, depends on you.
