Find A Topic For Your E-Book Business
« Posted: July 15, 2007, 08:35:37 AM »

To be successful in the online information marketing business, you have to provide quality, useful information that your customers will want to purchase from you. But what if you don’t have a clue as to what information you should market? In that case you need to do a little research to find what you want to sell.

Your first place to look is within yourself. It’s important to find a topic that interests you, because you’re going to have to spend a significant amount of time developing your material. Otherwise you will most likely lose interest in the project and never see it through to completion. Examine your own avocations, interests and hobbies. It could be that you already have all the resources you need right there, ready to tap into. Often, though, it won’t be quite that easy. In that case you’ll have to do some market research to find your niche. Your topic has to be big enough to have a broad appeal in order to have enough potential customers. Don’t let this step overwhelm you, though. It may sound like a huge task, but you can break it down into easy, manageable steps. Before long, you’ll have some good ideas of what kind of information to market.

The best way to start your research is to look online. You probably already have at least a vague idea of what you might want to market, so fire up your search engine and see what you can find. If there’s any potential in your idea you’ll probably find somebody already out there doing it, but that’s ok. It simply means you’ve hit on a valid idea. If it interests you enough, then pursue it. If you can find people selling something in your market idea area, then you can assume that they are making money, and there’s probably enough business to be had that you can get slice of the pie, too.

If you can afford it, you should buy their product and evaluate it. Maybe you can do something similar and beat them at their own price game. This is ok to do - it’s called competition. It’s also called a knock-off. But then, there have been knock-offs for all successful products ever since there have been products around for sale. Most likely you could evaluate products from a number of competing vendors and then create your own product that is better than everyone else’s.

You can make your product better by providing more information for less money. Or even the same amount of information, but once again, for less money. Maybe you could add value to your product by offering additional services that no one else is offering, or by providing bonuses that no one else is providing. The key is you want to provide extra value by offering above and beyond what anyone else is offering. This will make you stand out from the crowd and will generate more sales.

Till next time…Success to you!
