Different types of Ringtones
« Posted: October 10, 2007, 10:42:13 AM »

Ringtones are melodic sounds a mobile phone makes when an incoming call or message arrives. Since mobile phones are more sophisticated than landline phones, ringtones can be personalized to suit your personal taste. The different types of ringtones are monophonic, polyphonic and real tones. When ringtones first arrived, mobile phones were only capable of producing very simple ringtones, also known as monophonic ringtones. Monophonic ringtones are basic sequential notes that make a single tone at a time. polyphonic Ringtones are just like regular ringtones except that they can play several notes at the same time, producing a ringtone capable of playing more complex music with a richer sound, resulting in a more recognizable tune. polyphonic Ringtones can play 16 notes at a time and therefore highly musical with great sound effects. It can produce harmonic sounds and they are a regular feature of modern phones. Unfortunately, polyphonic ringtones are still unable to play an accurate and convincing reproduction of the original music. Nevertheless, 80% of mobile phones currently use MIDI-created polyphonic ringtones. The newest craze in mobile phone ringtones are real tones which have realistic, near CD quality sounds. Also called true tones or MP3 ringtones, these play clips of everyday common sounds, from sound effects to funny noises. Voice ringtones, sound effects, and instrumental or lyrical music are all available as MP3 ringtones today. The sound is a snippet of your favourite music with lyrics and the whole band playing much nicer than the dull monotone melody.. Most mobile phone manufacturers today include this type of ringtone on their newest handsets.

Most cell phones come with some ringtones pre-installed, but you can find the ones you really like out in the internet.. There are several methods for downloading ringtones. You can subscribe to a service that will send them to your phone weekly for a fee. Or you can download new ringtones from your favourite band's website. There is plenty of information available on the Internet to help you figure out where to get compatible ringtones. Mobile phone makers include a series of preloaded ringtones on the phones they distribute. These range in style from traditional ringtones to ringtones that sound like classical or even dance music. If mobile phones have increased in popularity, ringtones have played a big role. As more and more ways to generate tones evolve, so will be the demand for ringtones.
