Preservica has successfully secured a contract to work with Lloyds Banking Group to future-proof the Group's extensive brand history and digital archive assets. The Group's brands have a long history, including Lloyds Bank, which marked its 250th anniversary this year.

Preservica is working with the Archive of Lloyds Banking Group, the bank’s ‘corporate memory’ division. This team charts the expansion, development and innovations that have made the global bank the organisation it is today. It is a rich and internationally important collection that dates back to 1695. The digital file preservation project includes both born digital and converted to digital, which will be stored via the Preservica Enterprise edition.

“We embarked on this project with Preservica as we became aware of the increasing volume of born-digital records which were growing exponentially,” said Anne Archer, Senior Archivist. “We have a heritage to protect and wanted to ensure we were fully safeguarding it for the future.”

Lloyds Banking Group’s Archive holds the records of all its main brands, together with those of the companies, which have been acquired during its history. They include minute books, branch records, photographs, advertisements, staff registers and banknotes. Housed at locations in London and Edinburgh, the collection is extensive and surprisingly diverse.

Lloyds Banking Group needed a solution that could both connect to its catalogue system and which could also support Active Preservation. With a large volume of files, a key benefit to the Preservica solution is being able to search, discover and access files quickly.

“The selection process was an education for the whole team,” commented Anne. “We attended courses and conferences and conducted informal visits to view systems in action. Preservica is entrusted with other important financial and governmental files, so this was another factor in our decision.”

“Looking ahead, Preservica will help us to automate the handling of digital archive material among different departments and brands” commented Anne.  “We will also consider using Preservica’s Universal Access, to make our digital archive assets more accessible to the rest of the organisation, for knowledge re-use, and will also look at other types of digital content such as web archiving as we develop as a centre of excellence for handling digital material.”

“Preservica is proud to be working with Lloyds Banking Group to future-proof its corporate memory” said Preservica CEO Jon Tilbury. “The team at The Archive of Lloyds Banking Group is pioneering the corporate imperative to future-proof vital digital records into the future.”
