LINX deploy multi-100Gig DWDM over 57km using HUBER+SUHNER Cube Optics
« Posted: November 17, 2015, 08:05:31 PM »

The London Internet Exchange (LINX) recently expanded their metro optical network by deploying a simple 100Gig DWDM based solution from HUBER+SUHNER Cube Optics AG.

LINX were seeing increased need for more and more low latency and high bandwidth between their data centers around London. LINX were also keen to utilise the switch/router vendors’ native 100G ports, if possible, whilst also aiming to keep the transport portion of the network as simple as possible. Although there were many options from large DWDM vendors, the investment costs there were just too high.

LINX approached Cube Optics (CUBO) who proposed using tuneable 100Gig DWDM transceivers to deliver multiple 100G between their data centers and docklands, but also to reach 57km to Slough.

“HUBER+SUHNER Cube Optics provided a unique and flexible solution with the added benefit of being a commercially very competitive answer to deliver multiple 100Gig solutions between our London sites.” said Mike Hellers, Manager Network Engineering from LINX.“ we are pleased we chose Huber+Suhner Cube Optics, who continue to provide simple ways of delivering optical solutions.”

“We were pleased by the constructive spirit in working with one of Europe’s leading internet exchanges to deliver this cost effective solution”, said Thomas Paatzsch, GM at HUBER+SUHNER Cube Optics. “This is yet another example of how we at Cube Optics are determined in striving on an individual basis to tailor solutions with all our customers, keeping things as simple and cost effective as possible at the optical layer.”
