HGI, a leading body in the development of standards for Smart Home services, will reveal the next steps for providing a unified and collaborative Smart Home ecosystem at DECT World 2015 in Barcelona.

Speaking on day two of the event, HGI Chairman and Telecom Italia Project Manager Luca Giacomello will highlight developments in Smart Home architecture and HGI’s work on it. Key areas of focus include Wireless Home Area Networks (WHANs) and HGI’s Smart Device Template (SDT), which will enable interaction between applications and a wide range of smart devices.

Giacomello will also outline Telecom Italia’s approach to the Smart Home based on HGI and other specifications.

“HGI’s approach to Smart Home architecture reflects our alliance’s mission, which is to determine requirements for new services and assist manufacturers to address the Service Provider market for these services,” said Giacomello. “In the case of Smart Home, our members selected an overall architecture, and determined key reference points and APIs for applications. The SDT is an important part of this, enabling an “abstraction layer” approach. HGI has received wide interest in this work from across the industry, including from our partners in the DECT/ULE community.

“Moving forward, HGI will continue to work with partners to represent particular technologies within the SDT framework and to enable connection between applications on the Home Gateway and devices from those technology ecosystems. For example, home automation applications need to interact with devices, such as thermostat controls, energy-plugs, and home lighting systems. We feel that HGI’s work is bringing together a Smart Home ecosystem that reflects a Service Provider vantage point.”

Following DECT World, which takes place at the Crowne Plaza Barcelo, in Barcelona, from Tuesday, May 19 to Wednesday, May 20, HGI, in partnership with DECT Forum, will host an interactive discussion workshop at the same venue on Thursday, May 21.

This session will explore CAT-iq as the HDVoice technology of choice for the IP network and its positioning towards mass-market from Service Provider and manufacturer perspectives, as well as future opportunities for enhanced services.  The market potential of ULE sensors for Smart Home services and key steps which are needed for enabling mass market for Service Providers and manufacturers will also be discussed.
