Industry leaders gather to discuss if identity really matters
« Posted: November 19, 2007, 04:20:52 PM »

Does consumer identity really matter to businesses or are they just after our data?

This is the subject matter of the first European Summit on Identity – Identity Matters – taking place at London’s Langham hotel on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st November this week.

Over 150 senior business managers from across Europe will discuss the role that businesses have to play in protecting the consumer from identity fraud and other crimes resulting from the theft of personal information.

While the threat from organised gangs and potential terrorist cells may be fuelling the rise in identity-related crimes, the pace at which consumer behaviour is also changing (in relation to how we communicate, shop and pay for goods and services) is also creating significant challenges for the business community.

Renowned author and broadcaster Jeffrey Robinson, Forensic Psychologist Professor Laurence Alison, Founder of Garlik.com Tom Ilube, social networking analyst Mark Johnson and brand guru Kevin Thomson are just a few of the speakers who will look at how businesses need to:

Ř   Take customer identity beyond the mere verification of name and address
Ř   Recognise consumers appropriately and communicate relevantly
Ř   Embrace the world of virtual reality without losing track of the fundamental identity of customers
Ř   Tie customer identity to the growth of brand identity and prove the capital value of doing so

Identity Matters will move the debate on protecting consumer identity away from simply being something a regulated business “has to do” to a fundamental principle of good business management.
