Confessions Of A Goal-Setting Under Achiever!
« Posted: November 03, 2007, 11:34:55 AM »

What is it about "goal setting"??

The very words must subconsciously set off legions of procrastination messages in my mind!

I've listened to Anthony Robbins, and many of the other gurus, I'm convinced about the fact that goal setting works, so why don't I actually implement it better in my life?

One of MY excuse 'scripts' is "I'm too busy"! Hmm... bad case of self-sabotage there methinks!

Actually, I should clarify, I DO have written goals, and since making some changes to my routine about 6 months ago, I DO read them regularly now... and I LOVE it.

Here's one of them - a financial goal:

"I'm enjoying the financial security and relaxed lifestyle afforded by passive income of $20,000/mth by July 2007"

I have many more like that, and now I just keep them in one of those display folders with clear plastic sleeves, so that I can pull the page out and write on it. It's a work-in-progress!

But boy has it been a battle over the years to get my head to come into line, and actually disciplione myself properly to do this, when I'm SO busy always with things "that actually earn money." Sound familiar?

Well, for me, over the years, a consistent resource that has been enormously helpful has come from the sites AsAManThinketh.com and Goals-2-Go.com. Every year they bring out really great stuff on real goal setting.

Here's some quick tips from that site:

Quick Goal Setting Tips

1. Make goals meaningful. Goal setting for the sake of goal setting almost always ends in disappointment. Goal setting is simply a tool to use in achieving a favorable outcome -- what some people call a "Dream."

2. Use positive language and the present tense when setting a goal. It is better to say "I weigh a healthy, trim and fit 185 pounds" than "I want to lose 20 pounds."

3. Always put your goals in writing. Every expert agrees that setting a goal without putting it in writing drastically reduces your chances of success.

4. Goal setting should take place in every area of your life, including Health, Relationships, Spiritual, Career and Financial.

5. Setting Life Goals will add dimension, excitement and texture to your life.

6. Failure doesn't always mean that you did something wrong in your goal setting or implementation. It may just mean that the time you allotted for success wasn't adequate. A thorough review process should be undertaken before setting the goal again.

==============================================================

You know, there really isn't any doubt that you will massively benefit from taking a proper structured approach to your vision, and goals for the year ahead.

Here's some stuff that will help you. Will YOU procrastinate?
