Remember the famous line; “I get no respect” by Rodney Dangerfield and he goes onto say in one of his routines “then you can die, and people will finally respect you?” The reason Rodney Dangerfield’s style of humor is so funny and makes everyone laugh is that is indeed, very close to real life. You know on Maslow’s Hierarchy Pyramid of human desire, which predicts human intent and behavior it shows that “respect from your fellow man” is listed. There is a really good reason for this and it has to with the social conditioning and the social evolution of our species. So if you want respect of your fellow man and society you are not alone. This is to be expected.
However if you really stopped and thought about it you may change your priorities. Let me tell you how you might approach this philosophical issue. First I don’t know you, but you know you and you know if you deserve respect or not. Now some people are good people and they deserve some respect, yet others are complete dirt bags and you cannot deny it; they most likely do not deserve respect, but do deserve some tolerance. So if you a deserving respect, yet you do not receive if from another. Then that person is problematic and has bad judgment of sizing you up. Thus if that person does not give you respect, you should not worry or value their opinion anyway. In other words who cares what they think, because obviously they cannot recognize that you are good person who deserves respect.
This does not mean you should dis-respect them or another, you can remain polite and neutral until which time you either alter your opinion or conclude you were right in the first place to not worry about it. Look, know yourself inside and out, know your strengths and your challenges and act accordingly, if you find no respect out there, do not fret for there may not be a whole lot of people at your level, so you should not expect for them to respect you. Just don’t worry about and move forward. Think on this.
