Many screenwriters attempt to write a work of substance - full of meaning. They want to be original and intelligent and inventive.
As soon as they attempt this, they shut down.
One of the primary creativity blocks is evaluation apprehension: people are so worried about creating original and intelligent content that they self edit themselves to redundancy [and create limited output].
If the writers of Red Riding Hood had known the number of times their work would be interpreted and analysed for meaning, they may never have written it.
A good way to be original is to be obvious.
A good way to allow fluid creative output is to ignore content.
In other words, separate creative from critical thinking.
Using this technique, it is pretty easy to write a words-on-paper first draft. Of course, that words-on-paper first draft is not presentable. But by then identifying problems, generating ideas and allowing the process of incubation to unfold, a decent draft evolves.
