Leading Network Virtualization Specialist Shows Commitment to MEC and Other Evolving Standards

Guildford, UK – 23 November 2015 – Quortus, the company at the heart of transforming core network functionality into edge-based applications, today announced that it has joined ETSI (the European Telecommunications Standards Institute), and will be an active member of its Mobile-Edge Computing Industry Specification Group (MEC ISG).

The Mobile-Edge Computing (MEC) Initiative, announced in 2014, is working toward a standardized, open environment that allows efficient and seamless integration of third-party applications across multi-vendor platforms. Mobile-Edge Computing provides IT and cloud computing capabilities within the Radio Access Network (RAN) in close proximity to mobile subscribers and removal of core network functionality towards edge-based applications.

Quortus is a pioneer of MEC technology and network virtualization. Its award-winning EdgeCentrix technology enables a number of advanced products that push intelligence to the edge of the network. These include:

ECX Tactical, which provides the tactical communications market with a complete solution for field-deployable private cellular 4G ‘bubbles’ with features including multicast/broadcast, in-session mobility, relay-station functionality and ad-hoc meshing.
ECX Enterprise, a solution for local offload, PBX integration and VoLTE that provides a unified platform for enterprise communications

“Open industry standards are critical to mass market success,” said Andy Odgers, CEO of Quortus. “MEC is much more than just an industry buzzword – Quortus has been working in this sphere since before the term was coined; the applications and customer ‘pull’ are very much here-and-now. We are delighted to be working as part of ETSI with other partners from across the ecosystem to help define the specifications for Mobile-Edge Computing and other emerging standards.”
