First success following new approval for the Russian railway market
« Posted: February 04, 2015, 11:04:02 PM »

Over the next three years, HUBER+SUHNER will supply RADOX® cables for the series production of 54 carriages for new metro trains in a major Russian city. This is the first major order for HUBER+SUHNER from the Russian railway market based on the new approval.

The new trains were manufactured in a joint venture between Russian and Czech mechanical engineering companies. They consume 30 per cent less energy whilst also providing more comfort for passengers. HUBER+SUHNER advised both companies on technical matters and supplied the cables for testing. Following the successful completion of these tests, HUBER+SUHNER has now been appointed as the cable supplier for the production of all the new metro trains.

Almost the full range of RADOX® rail cables, including RADOX® databus cables and RADOX® signal and power cables, are used in the trains. These are particularly robust and safe and can withstand temperatures of -50 °C. Typical uses for the cables include supplying power to the lights and data transmission for information systems.

Building on a leading market position
This order follows the official certification of the cables at the end of 2013 as meeting the requirements of the state-owned Russian Railways. "The project is a milestone for HUBER+SUHNER. For the first time, we have been able to use our foreign-produced rail cables on the Russian metro railway market for the series production of metro trains. Our work toward certification over the past few years and the wide range of tests have been rewarded," said Alexey Chernychev, Business Development Manager at HUBER+SUHNER Russia.

HUBER+SUHNER is the world's number one supplier of connectivity solutions for railways and this order sees it continue to build on this strong position. The company has extensive experience in the development and production of cables and cable systems for railway applications. In addition to connectivity solutions for supplying power, HUBER+SUHNER also develops cables and antennas for communication networks in trains and between trains and the track. Fiber optic cables are used for data transmission in passenger information systems and for video surveillance, while antennas provide passengers with on-board internet access. HUBER+SUHNER therefore provides comprehensive solutions to provide passengers with excellent connections in trains.
