Olive Communications' digital safety management platform, Safetybank, last night won the UK Innovation and Entrepreneurship award at the UK IT Industry Awards 2014.

The highly prestigious UK IT Industry Awards are considered the benchmark for outstanding performance throughout the UK IT industry. The aim of the UK Innovation and Entrepreneurship award is specifically to recognise innovation and achievement in IT product or service development. The category in which Safetybank excelled saw stiff competition from ten finalists, including firms such as British Airways, BT and GSK.

After the initial submission and a series of panel interviews, the judges made their choice based on the following criteria: that the new product or service will deliver measurable benefit for customers and can demonstrate the potential to be an important product for customers worldwide, and has been developed by a small team in the UK.

Safetybank will rapidly change the way the construction industry manages health and safety, by introducing a digital system that is accessible and affordable to companies of all sizes, from the very largest infrastructure groups through to the smallest sub-contractor. It helps to reduce risk and the threat of accidents, and makes regulatory compliance across the entire supply chain far simpler to manage.

Jody Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer, Olive Communications, and founder of the Safetybank platform, said: "Winning an UK IT Industry award is a true stamp of quality. The judging process is rigorous and the competition, evidenced by the other names in our category, is fierce. We can see that Safetybank is making a huge difference to the construction firms who have already adopted it for their projects, and demand from other constructors is high. It's fantastic that a piece of software can be a force for good - it is helping to save lives and is improving the way the construction industry manages itself, in its drive towards digitisation."

Olive Communications, the UK's fastest growing business communications provider, acquired Safetybank in May 2014, to support its strategy of offering industry-specific business applications as well as telecoms solutions to SME, mid-market and enterprise customers.
