AOK Tool assesses application compatibility for session virtualization and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) with Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services
London, 30th June, 2011 – ChangeBASE, a world leader in automated application compatibility testing and remediation, has created a new application compatibility tool for companies considering moving to a session virtualization or virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment with Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services (RDS). The AOK Tool helps to determine which applications will work optimally in a server-hosted desktop virtualization environment on Windows Server 2008 R2.
Using the AOK Tool together with the recently launched ChangeBASE reporting rules and plug-ins for RDS which have been developed together with Microsoft Corporation makes it easier to find out which applications will work out of the box and which ones may experience issues.
“Many businesses are evaluating their pre-recession systems and processes and find that desktop virtualisation and Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services can help expand their business agility particularly for those with a mobile workforce, as it can provide the flexibility and functionality needed in these environments,” comments John Tate, CEO, ChangeBASE. “However, it’s important to consider the necessary steps towards virtualisation including application compatibility, so we’re excited to offer the right tools to make the transition more transparent.”
“As customers increasingly look at deploying RDS to meet their needs for session virtualization and VDI, new tools to help facilitate adoption are a welcome addition to the market,” said Manlio Vecchiet, Director of Product Management, Windows Server and Virtualization at Microsoft. “We believe that customers will benefit from tools such as the AOK Tool when addressing RDS application compatibility in the context of a desktop virtualization initiative.”
RDS is one of the core virtualisation technologies available in Windows Server 2008 R2. In addition to the traditional session virtualisation scenario (formerly known as Terminal Services), RDS has expanded its role to provide an extensible platform for VDI. RDS, which separates where the desktop or application is used from where it is run, accelerates desktop & application deployments and improves remote worker efficiency, while helping to keep critical intellectual property secure and to simplify regulatory compliance.
