Quest Provides Secure Virtual Desktop Access to Restricted Networks at Lancashire Constabulary

London, 21st April 2010 – Lancashire Constabulary announced today that it is implementing Quest Software’s virtual desktop solution, vWorkspace, to manage police officer access to its restricted and confidential networks.

Using Quest Software’s vWorkspace solution Lancashire Constabulary has centralised control of sensitive data such as crime scene images, criminal profiles and case details. Quest’s technology ensures that individual officers receive access based on their level of authorisation.  Aside from enhanced security, this centralised approach also simplifies the maintenance and support of desktops, and helps to improve network performance which in turn leads to a more cost effective operation.

The virtual desktop solution provides officers with aggregated access to Lancashire Constabulary’s main network as well as relevant restricted files via a single log-in. This not only ensures that sensitive information is protected in the virtualised environment, but it also offers police officers greater flexibility and resources when working from a virtual desktop.

Quest Software was the only vendor able to deliver a solution that provides us with the control to manage and restrict access to multiple networks in a virtualised environment,” explains Colin Fitzsimons, Senior Systems Engineer at Lancashire Constabulary. “This enables us to maintain the confidentiality of our records and the flexibility to alter access as and when necessary. The speed at which our officers are able to view data from the network on their desktop is also beneficial as it improves productivity and increases workflow.”

Quest Software’s vWorkspace integrates into the Virtualised Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) at Lancashire Constabulary which offers an end-to-end solution that reduces the management and security headaches of desktop computing.  Other vendors working with Quest are: Microsoft, HP and NetApp.

“We’re delighted to help Lancashire Constabulary maintain the high level of network security and control it needs to keep sensitive information safe,” comments Joe Baguley, CTO – Europe, Quest Software. “We’re also pleased that vWorkspace continues to deliver a richer virtual desktop experience for police officers so they have all their applications and data easily accessible on their virtual desktop whenever they need it.”
