1  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / CTTS TO BRING LIVE DEMOS AND FREE TRAINING COURSES TO ECOC 2008 on: July 25, 2008, 02:30:32 PM
CTTS is set to bring the latest developments in fibre deployment to the 2008 European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communications (ECOC). The CTTS event will take the form of live demonstrations and free training courses for visitors at the exhibition to be held 22-25 September in Brussels.

The exclusive event will feature live demonstrations of Air blown fibre technology and Alloptic Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON), microduct calibration and testing, fibre splicing and activation testing, as well as key ISP and OSP equipment deployed in modern FTTH networks. There will also be free training available for visitors, including courses on modern fusion splicing, PON testing, fibre optic connector cleaning, fibre characterisation and cable identification using Acoustic Detection Equipment.

The CTTS training sessions will run alongside the ECOC exhibition at the CTTS training centre in Hall 9. To register to attend these sessions go to www.ecocexhibition.com. You can also experience one of the live demonstrations by visiting the FTTx demonstration area in Hall 7.

Last year’s ECOC attracted nearly 6,000 visitors - an increase of 20% on 2006 - and sold out for the first time since the market crash. Now the stage is set for ECOC 2008 to surpass last year’s achievement. For more information about the exhibition please visit www.ecocexhibition.com.

2  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / telent to enhance police safety in London. on: April 02, 2008, 10:12:30 PM
Metropolitan Police Commission one of the largest Automated Personal Location Systems in the world

31 March 2008telent, a leading provider of technology services, today announced it has been selected to provide the Metropolitan Police with cutting-edge technology that will enhance the safety of the Service’s 31,000 officers.  The deployment of the technology – an Automated Personal Location System (APLS) – is one of the largest of its kind in the world.  The APLS will enable operators in the Service’s operations centres to identify the location of each police officer.

“Safety is a primary concern for all police forces,” said Nigel Lee, Supra Workstream Manager at the Metropolitan Police Service.  “The area served by our force covers 620 square miles; knowing the location of our officers means that not only can we provision resource more effectively, but, should an officer need assistance, we can get to them even more quickly.”

telent is to act as the primary contractor for the APLS and will design the system, install it and roll it out across the Metropolitan Police Service by July 2008.  telent will work with Frequentis, a specialist in communication and information systems for safety-critical areas, to deliver the contract.  Together the two companies have worked with the Metropolitan Police Service since June 2005, during which time they have delivered an Integrated Communications Control Service (ICCS) for the Metropolitan Police Service and currently provide a maintenance contract which runs until 2014.

telent has proved its ability to provide mission critical communications networks for the emergency services across the UK,” said Dave King, General Manager of Emergency Services at telent.  “Communications are vital to many organisations, but people’s lives depend on the networks operated by police, fire and ambulance services and we are proud to be able to deliver the level of quality, reliability and flexibility that they need.”

Approved by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) to provide telecommunications solutions, telent works with emergency services across the UK.

3  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / TR-069 REMOTE MANAGEMENT EXTENDED TO ADDRESS PON DEVICES on: April 02, 2008, 02:40:48 PM
27 March 2008– As vendors and service providers worldwide look to maximise revenues, the lack of common remote management capability across all access technologies is a major stumbling block as they look to lower management complexities, minimise truck rolls and introduce new revenue generating services.

The DSL Forum has taken steps to resolve this problem with the approval of Technical Report 142 (TR-142) “Framework for TR-069 enabled PON and fibre related devices”.   Developed by the Forum’s DSLHome Technical Working Group, TR-142 defines how Auto-Configuration Servers (ACS) in the network can remotely configure, troubleshoot and manage a Passive Optical Network (PON) optical network termination (ONT) with layer 3 capabilities using the Forum’s existing CPE LAN management protocol, TR-069.

This will save the service provider both time and money, as they will not have to invest in another remote management solution purely for PON access.  Many service provider networks are now a hybrid of fibre and DSL so having the same management platform is an essential development to ensuring broadband success.

“TR-142 enables vendors and providers to remotely manage PON devices without having to invest a substantial amount of money in new protocols and equipment.  They will be able to resolve problems more quickly and effectively, which will ultimately help increase customer loyalty and reduce churn,” explains George Dobrowski, President and Chairman of the DSL Forum.   “The remote management of consumer equipment is a vital tool for service providers to introduce new revenue generating services and to consistently provide high quality of services.”
