Examples of web browsers are Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, and Mozilla Firefox. Examples of web applications are Amazon.com's retail website or Intuit's TurboTax tax filing application. Designing a full featured web application is significantly more difficult that creating a set of static content web pages. There are many different open source and commercial technologies that can help make this easier. For example, Microsoft provides ASP and ASP.NET.
