Title: Luster is the most important factor in selecting Pearl Jewelry
Post by: Daniel Franklin on November 04, 2007, 07:12:10 AM
Pearl jewelry have basically three factors that you need to consider when making your selection 1) the shape of the pearl or the level of roundness, 2) the amount of blemishes that are visible on the pearl jewelry with the location of the blemishes kept in mind and most importantly the 3) the amount of luster that the pearl has.

Pearl Jewelry should be rating in 4 categories by the level of Luster. AAA or Excellent, AA+ of Good, AA or Fair and lastly A or B being poor.

To the untrained eye a luster rating of AA could be sold as a AAA Pearl unless you are able to compare the difference side by side. Pearl Jewelry with a AAA rating will be bright and very sharp and could have a decree of "Orient" (shimmering color below the surface)

. As you get into the lower grades of AA and A, you will not find any degree of "Orient" and the surface will have a haze to it.
