Title: New York Assembly: Selling violent games to minors should be a felony - Eric Post by: Mark David on June 09, 2007, 08:08:36 AM Last week we reported on a bill passed by the New York State Senate that would criminalize selling age-inappropriate video games to minors. The New York Assembly has passed a companion bill that ratchets up the penalties, making it a Class E felony (punishable by three to four years in prison) to disseminate "violent and indecent video games to minors." Bill A08696 was introduced earlier this week by Assemblyman Joseph Lentol (D) and echoes the provision of S5888 by calling for the creation of an advisory council on youth violence and interactive media. It goes beyond the Senate bill, however, in mandating that all new consoles sold in the state of New York contain parental controls (which are included in the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii).
