Mannequins that breathe, have heartbeats and speak in multiple languages are among $1.3 million in improvements that greeted nursing students at the University of Arizona when the semester began Monday. The three high-tech SimMan mannequins — thanks to interchangeable parts they can all easily transform into a "SimWoman" — are among a total of 24 mock patients that nursing students will practice on in the Steele Innovative Learning Center. "It's very different than when we left in the spring," said 22-year-old Meghan McLean, president of the UA's student nurse association.
