Assembling and wiring a small electronic gadget is not an activity Jordain Banker would have ever envisioned for herself. "It's like something I wouldn't like to try," said the Central Middle School girl, who is going into eighth grade this fall. But Banker sat in a Hawkeye Community College classroom Thursday soldering little wires connecting buttons and battery-operated motors on an electronic "bug." Working with the tools and small components was a new challenge. And guess what? She was enjoying herself.... She is one of 36 Waterloo Community Schools students going into eighth grade who have been participating in the Science, Technology, Engineering Preview Summer --- or STEPS --- Academy. Read More..
