Brigham Young University is taking measures to redeem the reputation of its online learning program after allegations that student athletes were abusing online courses to gain eligibility to play in college. Last week, BYU paid to fly a proctor to Mississippi to oversee an online algebra test taken by Jerrell Powe, an athlete embroiled in controversy over courses he took through the Provo school. "It's a rare but regular procedure," BYU spokesman Michael Smart said, adding that a proctor flies to testing sites about three times a year. "But this is the first time we've done it for an athlete."
