New classroom technology that makes the blackboard look as outdated as the abacus has Hopewell Elementary School pupils scram bling to volunteer and answer questions. The gadget is an electronic whiteboard, a large projector-like screen connected to a computer. It's an interactive chalkboard -- without the dust. "Basically what you see on the teacher's computer screen you see on the interactive white board," said Amy Orlando, technology specialist at Hopewell Elementary. The teacher's finger tracing a line across the screen takes the place of a mouse. Students can use electronic "markers" to work on the whiteboard so their work not only appears on the screen but also on the teacher's computer. However, no ink is used.
