Market changes in the technology field left Clifford Hayashi of San Mateo out of a job as a software engineer about three years ago. But he's looking to return to that field another way, and for the past year has been taking computer-programming courses at College of San Mateo. Going back to school, though, hasn't meant stepping into a class on campus once.
