Student leaders from the state's public universities are hoping to garner additional support for proposed legislation that would allow schools to levy fees each semester to fund technology improvements on campus. Students say the money is needed to equip schools with the latest technology to improve learning. New technology might include the equipment needed to create automatic podcasts for lectures, additional online courses and wireless Internet in areas that don't have it. The legislation would give students a voice in what technology would be purchased and how much students would have to pay for it. That's different from a proposal last year that students opposed because they would have had no say in either the technology or fee, said Frank Harrison, president of the Florida Student Association and student representative on the university system's Board of Governors.
