The Private Eye
by: Joe Dobson
The private eye performs a service for a client. Whether it be a private individual or a corporate body [ company or firm ] not the police, military or any other government organisation.
The kind of service the private eye performs is usually, but not limited to, the gathering of relevant information about a third party/parties.
Because the information required by the client can be very broad and far reaching the private eye needs to be experienced in many investigative methods.
A private eye can gain this experience in a variety of ways. He can join a firm of private investigators, he could have served in military intelligence, the police or with a government body.
As the field of private investigation is so vast there is a danger the private eye may well become a “jack of all trades and master of none” and so he may decide to specialise.
If the private eye decided to become expert in collecting information about the infidelities of a clients spouse to be used in a divorce case, then the bulk of his expertise would be gained in covert surveillance work.
There are of course many areas in which the private eye could specialise:
Surveillance
Find a person
Trace and position mobile phones
Divorce investigations
Find anyones current employer
Find a person by use of a utility company.
Database record searches / Background investigation - find information like, employment history, civil history, criminal history, medical history.
Child custody disputes - Acquire proof that a person isn't fit for custody.
Telephone number investigations:
Ex-directory Number -Cell Phone
Telephone Number
Disconnected Number
Pager Trace.
Internet Surveillance & Monitoring - Find out what sites are being visited by a person, read their emails and forum posts.
Business Help - Employment screenings.
Tenant screenings.
Solicitor/lawer services.
Photography and videography.
Victim assistance.
Nanny cams/hidden cameras.
Search rubbish/garbage bins.
DNA/Parernity testing.
Polygraph testing.
Protection (Body guards/ escort services) - High profile, or low profile.
Collection of child support payments.
Electronic eavesdropping.
Insurance fraud investigations.
Accident scene investigations.
Special assignments - Anything else you can think of, Private eyes can usually do.
When carried out by a professional private eye, all of the above activities are completely undetectable and untraceable.
A private eye must be licensed and insured and also must abide by the laws of the country/state in which he/she operates.
