IST and Lighting Science Group announce Strategic Affiliation
« Posted: May 05, 2009, 11:40:47 PM »

Alliance seeks to introduce Mains Dimmable LED products at Lightfair International in New York City next week

IST (Lighting), the UK’s leader in the development of LED driver and lighting systems, has announced the formation of a strategic affiliation with Lighting Science Group Corporation (LSG) to develop and distribute the iDrive™ range of LED drivers and ultra-efficient lighting products, including the DL range of LED downlights, offering efficiencies up to 60lm/W in cool, neutral and warm white colour temperatures.  The strategic partnership will enable IST to leverage the strength of LSG’s global presence in the lighting industry, allowing IST to focus on its core strength: delivering innovative and cost-effective LED driver and LED lighting solutions.

In cooperation with LSG, IST will be launching the new 45W iDrive™ MultiDIM mains dimmable LED driver and mains dimmable LED downlight ranges at LightFair International in New York next week. These products will be on display in LSG’s booth (#247).

The MultiDIM LED driver range is the first mains dimmable LED driver to offer up to 4 current output options from 350mA up to 1000mA, enabling LED fixture manufacturers to optimise fixture efficiency and light output, without the need to purchase different drivers.

This highly optimized MultiDIM dimmable LED driver, with efficiencies between 82% and 88%, is an ideal solution for all types of LED lighting.  Other unique features include a loop-in, loop-out AC mains connector enabling the rapid installation and daisy chaining of multiple drivers, as well as the auto-detection of the phase dimming switch method to work seamlessly with both leading-edge and trailing-edge dimmer switches.

IST and LSG will also be demonstrating the world’s first mains dimmable LED replacements for standard CFL downlights. The dimmable DL LED downlight range offers up to 1600 lumens from each downlight and total system efficiencies of up to 60lm/W when driven at 20W.

The DL downlight range utilizes a unique and highly efficient patent pending optical delivery system to significantly reduce glare and effectively extend the LED emitters, making the downlights appear similar to more conventional lamp sources. The DL range offers unparalleled flexibility when combined with the iDrive™ MultiDIM mains dimmable LED driver and can be operated to deliver between 1000 lumens at 350mA to 1600 lumens at 700mA maximum forward currents. Narrow beam angle versions are ideal for spot-type applications, such as lighting corridors, stairwells and receptions and can offer up to 75% savings over twin 26W CFL downlight equivalents.

Dr Geoff Archenhold, IST founder and CSO stated: “This is an ideal partnership for IST. LSG have shown they understand how best to leverage LED lighting technology. They also understand all the requirements to deliver quality, long-lasting and cost-effective solutions to customers. LSG is ideally positioned to leverage the uniqueness of the IST product portfolio globally. IST’s expertise is clearly in developing innovative driver, optical, thermal and LED lighting solutions and this partnership will enable IST to concentrate on delivering new innovations based upon its extensive patent portfolio.”

Govi Rao, Chairman and CEO of LSG, stated: “We are delighted to work closely with IST and believe their innovative LED solutions will complement many of our own innovations, offering a significant commercial and technological advantage, to our customers and the lighting industry at large. This partnership demonstrates our collaborative approach to innovation in the interest of bringing energy efficient solutions to the market rapidly.”

IST and LSG welcome visitors of LightFair International to booth #247 for further information about the mains dimmable products.
