I am grateful! For a career which is flowing along smoother than I could have ever imagined. For my fiancee, my dog, my brother, and my father. For my health, which has been all but perfect since the day I was born. For all my wonderful friends, and the people I meet and connect with each day. And for my personal spirituality, which guides the whole ship on this mysterious and precious journey through life.
So what are you grateful for?
In its purest form, The Law of Attraction states 'Like attracts like'. This simply means you continue receiving more of what gets your energy and focus. In a world which can often seem fast, furious, and unforgiving, is it any wonder people don't always slow down long enough to give thanks for all they have? So in order to gauge your personal 'Gratitude Meter', it's critical to drill down to your core feelings - which means being in touch and honest with yourself about the true messages you're sending the Universe.
Now I imagine some of you will read this and think, "Hey, wait a minute, I'm grateful!" And I'm sure you are. But the distinction arises in where your gratitude originates - is it coming from your head, or your heart? One way to pinpoint the difference is to take notice of those times when you are being thankful. Is it something you do infrequently and irregularly? Or do you find yourself feeling blessed almost continuously throughout each day? Also, when you do give thanks, does it feel like a ritual, where you more or less 'recite the words'? Or do you consciously take time to stop and soak in all you're fortunate to have?
These aren't trivial nuances, and it's really important you understand them. In coaching conversations, I'll sometimes toss out the idea of implementing gratitude to start the process of high-vibrational attracting. And many times, I'll hear clients saying they're grateful - and they'll even reflect specifically on why they feel lucky - but often too quickly, those moments pass, and they're back and focused on the 'real' issues in their lives - the problems that need attention and fixing.
Are you starting to see the irony here? If your attention is consistently on your problems, how do you think Law of Attraction responds? Remember, it doesn't matter that you're seeking to correct problems, the Universe just hears 'problems'. So the key lies in shifting your perspective - taking more time to focus on why you're grateful (which sends a signal to the Universe to give you more to be grateful for), and spending less time on what's wrong (i.e. what you don't have, what isn't right, etc).
The beauty is you can start right where you are, right now! Make a list of everything in your life you're thankful for. When you woke up this morning, could you move all 10 fingers? (and if you only have 9, could you move all of those?) In the course of your day, did you notice any pleasing sights, sounds, or smells? Perhaps someone gave you a smile while you were in line for lunch. The truth is, if you were diligent in writing down everything in your life that is good, you wouldn't have time for much else! So what's stopping you from letting go of all negative-focused activities? How would it feel if your entire world revolved around basking in everything that's right - everything you're grateful for?
Those are questions worth pondering after you're finished reading.
I'll leave you with one more thought. When I get married this August (for the first time, as a 41-year-old who still feels like he's 19!), my other brother David will be in attendance as my Best Man. It's only fitting, since we're getting married on his birthday. What most of you don't know though is David passed away in 2003 from kidney disease. Now I could easily spend a lot of my time missing him, focusing on how he's no longer around, and how unfair life is. But instead, I choose to appreciate everything we shared - and all the ways he's still here, surrounding me with his guidance and love. And for me, that's real gratitude. The kind where miracles are born. The kind that lives forever. I wonder how the Universe is responding to that.

Question: Hi. I've been working with The Law of Attraction for a few years, and for the most part, I think I get it. But this issue has me boggled: I have a question about mice (yes, mice!). I'm in the process of buying a new home, and found mice during a structural inspection. I'm presently living in a rental home with at least one mouse roommate. A few years ago, when I had a home built, I had the mouse issue there too. How do I attract mice? Or, better yet, how do I NOT attract mice? (P.S. Your website is great!)

Thanks for the website compliment, Jo. Now let's get rid of those mice! (and anything else that isn't bringing you 100% happiness, for that matter) One thing I'm certain of - whether you're completely conscious of it or not, you're thinking about mice. How do I know this? Because if you had no thoughts or feelings about mice showing up, they simply wouldn't be part of your existence. Remember, with Law of Attraction, it doesn't matter whether you want or don't want something - LOA simply responds to where your attention and feelings go. So if mice keep appearing in your life, you can be sure there are some strong emotions attached. Here's something to consider: If you don't want mice, you have a few choices. You can focus all your attention on not wanting mice - and guess what will show up? - mice! Or, every time you have a thought about mice, you can move your attention to something else, say a tranquil home environment. Now keep in mind The Law of Attraction does work on a 'time delay' - so mice may still show up for awhile, even though you've begun to shift your focus (this is a result of your past feelings about mice). The key is, if you do see a mouse, not to spend a lot of time or energy on the problem. Do what you need to get rid of them - but almost as an afterthought - then quickly move on to what you truly want. If you are consistent with this, I guarantee you the mice will disappear. Keep me posted as to what happens!
