On My Sister's birthday, a group of us girls decided to make it a casino weekend, and rented a room at a casino hotel.
While I was sitting at a Dolphin Treasure slot machine in a casino in Washington, I ran into many of these individuals.
One lady, after losing over one hundred dollars in one machine, told me that she just had to put more money into the slot machine because she just new it was going to hit. So, she purchased more tickets and proceeded to lose some more. She then told me that she was suppose to be home cleaning house and making supper and had to make up an excuse to tell her husband when he got home and it wasn't done. She also told me that she just can't help herself...she gets in her car to go run errands or the shopping and she hears the slot music in her head and her car just automatically goes to the casino! I thought to myself, this woman has a real problem.
After lunch we went back to the casino floor. Since I had won on the machine I was on earlier, I went back to the same kind of machine. Here again, I met another woman with a problem. She was betting high, buying one hundred dollar tickets and losing. Finally she hit a good spin and won around $300.00.
My thought was that she should take the money and cut her losses, but she didn't. Instead she stayed on the machine. I left and went for supper, and when I came back a few hours later, she was still there, but her winnings were nearly gone.
Soon a woman in a wheelchair came over to her and said she was ready to go home. It fell on deaf ears. The disabled lady sat there waiting for at least another hour, eventually falling asleep in her wheelchair.
Over the next hour or so, the wheelchair lady asked to be taken home several times, always with the same answer, "we can go as soon as I get one more bonus". I was really feeling sorry for her at this point, and couldn't imagine how a person could make someone wait for hours while she gambled.
It was nearly midnight, and several bonuses later that the lady finally gave in to her mother's wishes and they left. Or so I thought.
A few minutes passed and here she came back! She was embarrassed and said she had taken her wheelchair ridden mother to the car and seat belted her in, but just had to come back and try to win back what she had lost. She told her mother that she just needed to go back in to use the restroom.
I could hardly believe what I was hearing or seeing!
It was at least another 30 minutes before she finally left with zero credits!
These casinos count on people like these. They win a little, but it is never enough, and don't leave until all their money is gone.
