Cambridge, UK, 20th November 2014 - CCS (Cambridge Communication Systems Limited), creator of the world’s first self-organising small cell microwave backhaul system for mobile networks, today announces that it has won a coveted IET Innovation Award. CCS beat a record number of entrants to be shortlisted in the hotly contested Communications category, and was announced as the overall winner at a gala award ceremony held in London on 19th November.

The 10th edition of the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) Innovation Awards celebrates the very best global innovations in science, engineering and technology. The awards were independently judged by a panel of more than 80 esteemed industry and academic experts, who this year presided over a record number of entries across all 16 award categories – more than 400 submissions from 30 countries.

Commenting on CCS’ award submission, the judging panel said: “This entry has developed a high-capacity backhaul for 4G/LTE small cells to alleviate capacity issues encountered in wireless systems. The system is capable of transmitting at 480 Mbps and has advantages of easy installation, does not need continuous network planning, site re-visits or antenna re-alignment. This is a significant advance for the communications sector.”

CCS will be making space for the IET Innovation Award in its growing 2014 awards cabinet, which already hosts a Small Cell Forum Industry Award (Backhaul Design and Technology Innovation Category) and a Cambridge News Top Innovations Award, as well as a flurry of industry award shortlistings in recognition of outstanding innovation.
As pioneers of the first self-organising small cell backhaul system that makes outdoor small cells truly viable, CCS’ snowballing awards success has been matched by its rapidly accelerating commercial momentum. Last month, CCS expanded its first commercial deployment with China Mobile – the world’s largest mobile operator – with a further installation in its Fujian Mobile branch.
The IET Innovation award was accepted last night by CCS CEO and Co-Founder Steve Greaves, who said: “Simply to be shortlisted for the IET Innovation Awards is a huge honour, so the whole team at CCS is genuinely elated to be taking home the winner’s prize for Communications from one of the most prestigious awards in technology.”

About CCS Ltd:
Cambridge, UK-based CCS (Cambridge Communication Systems Ltd) is the pioneer of the world’s first self-organising small cell microwave backhaul system for mobile networks.

CCS offers mobile network operators the only system that meets all key requirements for high capacity and low latency, reliability, rapid deployment and low-cost operation in a small, low-impact design. Self-organising, self-healing links automatically reconfigure themselves to optimise performance across a resilient, multipoint-to-multipoint topology. Easy to scale, with no radio planning or re-alignment required as nodes are added, CCS’ self-organising microwave-based system delivers the lowest TCO for any small cell backhaul technology.

CCS’ system enables mobile operators to deploy small cells in a flexible, organic way as additional capacity is required, maintaining a quality of service that meets customer expectations.
