Prysmian Group Ahead Of FTTH Conference: Long-Lasting High-Speed Networks Depend On A High-Quality Infrastructure

Milan, 12 February 2016 – Prysmian Group, world leader in the telecom and energy cable systems industry, will put an emphasis on ‘quality over all’ at this year’s FTTH Conference in Luxembourg.

Philippe Vanhille, Senior Vice President of Telecom Business for the Prysmian Group, will be amongst a number of representatives at the Luxembourg event urging delegates to embrace the most modern technology to ensure the success of long-lasting, high-speed networks both domestically and commercially.

“We –as a community of technology experts– must capitalise on our know-how and the advanced technologies available to progress towards the end goal of a single space where products and information can be traded seamlessly via digital means,” said Mr Vanhille, speaking ahead of the conference. “Putting an emphasis on the quality of the infrastructure means that access to this space is not dependent on nationality or location. Paying attention to the quality of our collective infrastructure is a must for minimizing disruptions and for really delivering the end user the service they pay for.”

Making the right choices for active components and for network architecture has been extensively debated. However, it is important not to neglect the passive side of the infrastructure which plays a pivotal role in providing consistent, high quality connectivity.

“By optimizing the passive infrastructure, the durability of the network is greatly increased and maintenance costs decrease. This is especially significant as the access networks that must be developed will be manipulated and extended many times, each time with an associated risk of damage,” continued Mr Vanhille. “We, as a region, are going to invest billions in infrastructure. Quality really counts – not only with the active parts of the network, but also on the passive side.”

Prysmian has recently been active in promoting the improvement of networks in Europe, and in particular, supporting the European Union’s objective of a thriving digital economy and society.

“Fibre-based, ultra-high-speed access network technologies have a unique role in achieving an effective framework which will meet the increasing need of high-bandwidth quality. This is a fundamental building block for achieving the targets of the Digital Agenda for Europe by 2020 and bring broadband to all EU citizens, including in rural areas,” concluded Mr Vanhille.

Prysmian will be exhibiting at FTTH Conference 2016, Luxembourg, at Stand G15.
