Hortonworks renews commitment to Cork and opens expanded offices in response to growth

CORK, Ireland – October 26th 2016 – Hortonworks, Inc.® (NASDAQ:HDP), a leading innovator of open and connected data platforms, today announced the opening of a new, larger premises in Albert Quay, Cork, at an opening ceremony hosted by the Lord Mayor of Cork City and IDA Ireland. The inauguration comes just nine months after the company confirmed its plans to extend its global team, and create 50 jobs in Ireland.

As business growth and availability of skilled resource in the region remains strong, One Albert Quay will provide Hortonworks with a much larger working space, offering employees the right environment to welcome a growing roster of partners and customers. One such partner is Cork-based big data specialist Bluemetrix, which delivers web analytics and data consultancy, who recently became the company’s first Silver Certified Partner in Ireland.

“Businesses today receive and store more data in a day than they can typically process. Helping them manage large data loads is at the heart of our model and having a local sales and field operations team is crucial to ensuring organizations can find and implement these solutions in a smooth and seamless way,” said John Kreisa, Vice President of Global Field Marketing at Hortonworks. “When we looked for a home to expand our international team, we wanted to find a location with easy access to the right talent that also gave our team members a high quality of life. We have found this perfect balance in Cork. Alongside other like-minded innovative companies we are pleased to support IDA Ireland in its commitment to regional growth.”

Hortonworks is headquartered in Santa Clara, California and is driving the adoption of Apache Hadoop, an enterprise-grade software for storing, analysing and managing large amounts of data. The move to new facilities in Cork reflects the continued popularity of Hadoop amongst the largest businesses throughout Europe.

“IDA is delighted to see Hortonworks firmly establish its presence in Cork with this move to larger high quality offices,” said Ray O’Connor, Regional Business Development Manager for the South Region. “It is testament to Hortonworks’ confidence in the Cork region and its highly skilled workforce. Since arriving here early this year, the company has quickly become part of Cork’s vibrant technology ecosystem. I wish Hortonworks every success in its future operations in Cork.”

On opening of Hortonworks’ new office, Lord Mayor of Cork City, Des Cahill added, “Having an established company like Hortonworks here to stay is an excellent addition to Cork’s Technology Hub. This move to a larger, permanent premises shows the progress the company has made since initially establishing here and reinforces its commitment to the region. I wish Hortonworks continued growth and success for the future.”
