1387  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Server-Based Document Creation: Generate Invoices As PDF With .NET on: August 13, 2008, 06:46:22 PM
The Imaging Source announces a family of server-side components for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 to generate invoices as PDF and other industry standard file formats.

Charlotte, NC, August 13, 2008 - Increasingly, the centralized creation and management of documents is an integral part of enterprise software. In modern server-based architectures, invoices, business reports and mission critical documents are created, printed and e-mailed by one centralized server.

With its latest software product, TX Text Control .NET Server 14.0, The Imaging Source brings to market a family of components for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and 2008, which can be used to create documents from MS Word compatible templates and content from databases. The resulting document can be printed or saved to Adobe PDF.

The components, which have been designed specifically for Microsoft Visual Studio, allow documents to be created on one centralized server. According to the manufacturer, the advantage herein is that documents can be centrally managed, created on demand, when they are needed, thus ensuring the document's data is always up to date. The resulting documents can then be printed or e-mailed, as the application demands.

The components were authored for server-side solutions, such as ASP.NET web applications or web services. During the development of the components, great emphasis was placed on their performance, stability and reliability.

TX Text Control .NET Server 14.0 supports all industry standard formats, such as Office Open XML (DOCX), MS Word (DOC), Rich Text Format (RTF) and HTML. Consequently, templates which currently exist and are stored as DOC files can be used.

1388  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Pink Elephant Announces The Launch Of Support Services in the UK on: August 13, 2008, 06:44:30 PM
Global leader in ITIL services announces launch of Support Services Division
Reading, UK – August 13, 2008. Pink Elephant today announced the launch of the Support Services division in the UK, which sees a return to the conceptual roots of the original company. Over 20 years ago in the Netherlands the Pink Elephant brand was conceived based upon the premise of providing intelligent, motivated, service-oriented individuals who could deliver outstanding levels of IT support to the client base. Since that time there have been continued and frenetic technological advances with products and formalisation of the roles within the IT Services environment, but we still see that many large organisations outsource HR and recruitment of IT to agencies.

In principle, like any non-core business function this makes sense: take away the time and cost of recruiting people into the right roles, the headache of advertising, sorting through applications, the lengthy and time-consuming interview and selection process. ‘It is understandable’, explains Alan McCarthy, Director, Pink Elephant EMEA. ‘However what we find is that this method of selection is based primarily on CV word matching, and what we continually see is a lack of understanding of what is required with regards to qualifications, skills and experience in service management.’

The personnel provided to clients by Pink Elephant UK’s Support Services division are all employed by Pink Elephant and begin with a formal induction course to ensure they understand the core values of the organisation and what is expected of them as an individual and as a team player. This foundation is built upon by ensuring their service orientation is complimented with formal IT Service Management education. Pink Elephant believes that you can train professionals to acquire a range of valuable technical skills required to match the environment, however, what can be more difficult to teach is a fundamental service ethos. This ethos tends to come naturally to some people and this is what Pink Elephant looks for in its people.

“By using Pink Elephant to support your IT services, you will be guaranteed a level of service not offered by any freelance or contract personnel,” adds Alan McCarthy. “Our people will be trained in ITIL and will always be looking for ways to improve the service, to go the extra mile for the customer. Our service also gives you the distinct advantage of always having the support cover you need, with sick, holiday and shift patterns calculated into the number of hours cover required.”

For further information on this service and how it could benefit your IT organisation, please contact Pink Elephant on               + 44 (0) 118 903 6820        or email [email protected].

1390  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Second Generation Biofuels Will Attract Major European Investment on: August 06, 2008, 03:18:16 PM
London, Report Buyer, 06.08.2008: Quality not quantity will be the most considered factor when biofuels are being considered for production and use, says a new report. There will be a high premium placed on carbon savings and sustainability credentials for biofuels, making second generation biofuels an attractive investment proposition, according to ‘The European Biofuels Challenge - Developments in European Union Policy and Industry Drivers’.

Second generation biofuels have the important characteristic that they are not produced from food crops. They are made from non-food sources, agricultural wastes or plants like algae, which grow on water and do not compete with food crops for land.

The publication finds that only products with the most sustainable certification and standards will be able to sell at a premium. Similarly subsidies to non-sustainable products will cease, it says. There has already been significant investment in second generation biofuels plants in several countries within the EU, notably those that are trying to produce cellulosic ethanol and biofuel from algae.

The European Union has been under pressure from environmental groups who have been actively campaigning for it to reconsider its energy policies as biofuels made from food crops like corn or beet which have been implicated in the global rise of food prices as well as harming the environment.

“There is an increasing awareness that all biofuels are not equal. Research is pointing out that second generation biofuels could offer great benefits in the quest for alternative energy,” said Urmila Doraswami, the report’s author. “The biofuel industry is also taking its lead from the fact that ‘better’ biofuels need to be prioritised over ‘more’ biofuels and investment is reflecting this trend,” she added.

“The European Biofuels Challenge - Developments in European Union Policy and Industry Drivers” is a critical review of the debate concerning large-scale biofuel use and is available as a free download at http://www.reportbuyer.com/go/RBY00011.

1396  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / ip.access Brings Femtocells into the Connected Home on: June 23, 2008, 03:13:53 PM
Cambridge, UK, 23 June 2008 – ip.access (www.ipaccess.com), the multi-award winning developer of femtocell and picocell solutions, has developed new 3G Home Routing™ technology that connects 3G phones into a home network via its Oyster 3G femtocell.

3G Home Routing uses the Oyster 3G to provide a real-time “bridge” between the user’s home network and any 3G handset, enabling a new generation of entertainment and communications applications for consumers, and allowing them to use their mobile phone in new and exciting ways at home.

Using a femtocell, a 3G phone can connect directly to a home network, enabling new applications such as streaming live video from a home media server to the handset, using the phone to browse the music on the home server and select tracks to play, or displaying a slideshow of phone photos on the TV.

“Femtocells can open up these applications to any 3G handset quickly and easily, putting your mobile phone at the heart of your connected home,” said ip.access VP of Marketing, Dr. Andy Tiller.  “Our femtocell-powered 3G Routing technology means there’s no need to have a special WiFi-enabled phone, and you don’t have to spend time configuring any settings either.”

Because all the data traffic is routed locally over the femtocell, the end-user benefits from full HSDPA data rates for all their connected home applications.  3G Home Routing removes the delay associated with carrying data traffic from the phone over the mobile operator’s core network and back, which also saves costs for the operator.

“Femtocells can offer consumers more than just better 3G coverage at home,” said Tiller.  “We believe that connected home applications and other ‘femtozone’ services will become compelling reasons for consumers to adopt femtocells.”

ip.access is demonstrating its 3G Home Routing technology at Femtocells Europe 2008, which is being held alongside the Femto Forum plenary meeting at the Sheraton Skyline Hotel at Heathrow, from 23-25th June.  As a founding board member of the Femto Forum, ip.access is actively promoting industry-wide initiatives to encourage the development of femtocell applications.

1399  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Component Manufacturer Partron Selects NemeriX to Enhance GPS Modules for PND an on: June 02, 2008, 04:22:24 PM
June 2, 2008, Manno Switzerland – NemeriX, a leading fabless semiconductor company specializing in ultra low power, high-performance A-GPS solutions for GPS and location-based service (LBS) products, today announced a partnership with Partron, a leading component manufacturer serving the mobile phone and PND markets, to incorporate NemeriX’s high-performance GPS solutions into Partron’s components.

Based in Korea, Partron designs, manufactures and supplies RF modules, GPS components, VGA camera modules, antennas and other components to handset and PND manufacturers.  Launched in 2003, Partron was founded by the technologists who led RF-development for the mobile communications division of Samsung Electro-Mechanics.  Since its founding, Partron has become one of the world’s premier manufacturers of RF modules.

By leveraging NemeriX’s chipsets, Partron has significantly enhanced the performance and efficiency of its GPS modules - which are featured in approximately 70% of all PNDs sold in Korea and China.  The enhancements delivered from its partnership with NemeriX will help Partron increase its PND market-share on a global basis, and also provide a competitive advantage for Partron’s components in mobile phone markets.

“We’ve selected NemeriX because of the quality of their products, and because their technical support is first rate,” said Steven Cho, Senior Sales Manager for Partron.  “The NemeriX chipsets integrate seamlessly with our GPS offerings, and NemeriX’s low-power design provides a power savings of more than 60% compared to some of the other GPS chipsets we’ve evaluated.”

“Partron’s innovation and technical leadership in developing RF solutions for mobile phones, PNDs and base stations is widely recognized by our customers, and by many of the companies we seek to do business with,” said Lew Boore, VP of Marketing for NemeriX.  “We’re thrilled to work with Partron, and we look forward to a lasting and successful partnership together.”

1400  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / NemeriX Awarded Patent For Single-Chip Multi-Band GNSS RF Receiver Technology on: May 28, 2008, 04:46:43 PM
May 28, 2008, Manno Switzerland – NemeriX, a leading fabless semiconductor company specializing in ultra low power, high-performance A-GPS solutions for GPS and location-based service (LBS) products, today announced that it has been granted a patent for its new single-chip multi-band GNSS RF receiver technology that enables GNSS devices to acquire parallel signals in all frequency bands from the GPS, GLONASS and Galileo systems.  The patent – number US7'358'896 – covers NemeriX’s fully programmable single frequency synthesizer innovation and has been awarded in the US.

The highly integrated receiver reduces silicon size and optimises cost by enabling a single RF front-end receiver to synchronously acquire up to three different frequency bands – eliminating the need to implement three parallel receivers.  With the ability to program the frequency synthesizer and to easily tune the three receiving channels, including filtering levels and frequency plans, NemeriX’s solution provides maximum flexibility for end applications and allows NemeriX’s customers to serve different markets with the same device.

Originally developed to address the high-end and space market, this innovation from NemeriX will allow customers to efficiently address future consumer applications, as new services in different bands – such as L2C – are released to support improved performance for commercial GPS/GNSS applications.

“By providing a highly integrated solution for multi-band signal environments, NemeriX is ready to deliver the next wave of GNSS performance,” comments NemeriX VP Marketing Lew Boore. “This latest technology innovation from NemeriX provides our customers with a future-proof platform for a greatly enhanced user experience, increased availability and accuracy for high demand applications, including emerging location based services such as pedestrian navigation and mobile social-based networking.”
