Rimell was responsible for the architecture that underpinned all JacobsRimell products and growth prior to its acquisition by Amdocs in 2008.

VeriFone today also unveiled SingleCI (Single Contactless Interface), a unifying programming interface with development tools that allows acquirers and developers to leverage existing contactless investments, adapt to future needs, and take advantage of the company’s entire contactless portfolio. SingleCI is compatible with today’s industry-leading contactless interfaces.

The contactless PINpad 1000SE combines two payment peripherals—PIN entry and contactless—into one space-saving device that reduces costs and support burdens. Suitable for use worldwide, the PCI PED approved PINpad1000SE contactless version is backward-compatible with earlier versions, and features USB or serial connectivity for easy connection to electronic cash registers and POS devices.

“We are unleashing contactless by making it effortlessly available in the best-selling PIN entry device on the market today,” said Paul Rasori, VeriFone senior vice president, marketing. “Acquirers can literally swap out an older PINpad 1000SE for this new solution. The PINpad 1000SE contactless version also supports non-payment applications, such as MiFare, and will be commercially available in the first half of 2009.

SingleCI provides a single interface to VeriFone’s entire contactless portfolio, so developers can write one program that will operate on any VeriFone contactless system. “VeriFone’s SingleCI takes the pain out of working with contactless, providing acquirers and developers with the ability to invest once to create multiple solutions that run across our contactless product line in countertop, multi-lane, unattended, and drive-thru environments,” Rasori said.

Fully compatible with common industry interfaces, SingleCI enables acquirers to leverage their existing investments in contactless platforms. In addition, it future-proofs new investments by providing development tools that enable acquirers to easily add new features and applications, and adapt to changing specifications such as the NFC (Near-Field Communications) standard.

The software component, TX Text Control, enables developers to easily integrate PDF/A creation or conversion into their business applications. Validity and verifiability is very important when creating PDF documents. Poppy Downloads allow members of the public to make a donation using their mobile phones and in exchange receive a poppy for their mobile phone wallpaper.

The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal is one of the best known and supported campaigns in the country. Its aim is to raise funds to support the Legion’s work in providing financial, social and emotional support to people who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants.

For the first time, The Royal British Legion is including a short-code number on their nationwide poster campaign, inviting people to show their support by texting ‘POPPY’ to 80848 to make a £1.50 donation. (NYSE: PAY), today announced the Vx 700, an electronic payments module that delivers the power and security of the Verix V architecture to kiosks, vending machines, ticketing devices and other systems where cash has traditionally been the primary payment method.

Designed to meet stringent PCI PED and EMV security standards, the Vx 700 integrates with VeriFone’s SCR710 secure card reader and an external contactless payments interface to provide a powerful and flexible solution for multiple electronic payments options. The entire device, including keypad and high-resolution display, is built to fit into standard bill acceptor cutouts making it simple to extend support for magnetic stripe, chip cards and contactless payments into traditional cash-only kiosks, ticketing and vending machines.

System Associates, Maidenhead, 23 September 2008: The New Culture Collections website from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has gone live on www.hpacultures.org.uk. The new e-commerce site brings together four, previously separate, culture collections into one domain and has been developed by specialist public sector web services company, System Associates. System Associates has provided design, content management, digital asset management, data integration, search, hosting, training and 24-hour support for the site.

The project involved the integration of four separate databases, as well as the integration of a customer database for online ordering. More than 40,000 cell lines, bacteria, viruses or fungi can now be accessed via the site and are typically purchased by hospitals, universities and laboratories to further medical research.

Users of the site are able to browse by several different search criteria, including A-Z browsing, via reference number, name, type of culture, or culture associated with a specific part of the body, or ailment. A search will retrieve the most relevant information about a culture, as well as useful papers and resources associated with that culture.

David Macken, managing director of System Associates comments: “By far the most sophisticated aspect of this project has been to provide a meaningful retrieval on a complex subject-matter. There are 11 different search criteria, each of which relates to the indexing of more than 40,000 items.”

Helping to facilitate this retrieval is System Associates’ content management and digital asset management software, which makes it as easy as possible to add and cross-reference items to the collections. The content management system also has a versioning facility which allows content providers to edit documents, while old versions are still live, to ensure that each culture is available online, even when being updated.

Registered users of the system can order cultures directly from the website and at present, the order is then passed to operations for dispatch. Phase II of the site will see the CRM, logistics and financial systems also integrated, to provide a seamless experience from ordering to dispatch.
