Books are always a staple, no matter what day, no matter what age. It is one of things that you know will remain no matter how much technology advances - it may take another form (i.e. eBooks), but it still remains in its basic premise. For a lot of people nothing beats reading a good book in the comfort of your own room or outdoors in an open space where you can have peace and quite. There is nothing out there quite like a book that gives your imagination a healthy jog. Movies and TV are great but they spoon feed your senses and leaves nothing to read between the lines. For factual and informative textbooks, they are also very helpful in studies and with learning new things.

For some people, book collecting is life, while for some - reading a book once or twice is enough and they would be substantially happy to rid of it afterwards. This is where second hand/ slightly used sales come in. The age of a book does not affect its market value as long as it is still intact and without substantial damage. In fact, the older and the rarer a book is, the higher is its value and the more money it will be able to fetch for you. But, most of the time, avid readers and book lovers do not look on the book's monetary value, but rather on its pleasures that it brings them.

Over the years, there have been many places where a person can get their hands on great slightly used books. There were libraries that were willing to sell old books that may have been replaced with newer volumes. Book fairs also exist; these events showcase everything from children's books to college textbooks. With the advent of the internet, it became easier to purchase books via online stores like amazon.com and eBay. The former mainly sells new book while the latter sells both old and new ones.

When buying second hand text books (sometimes even new ones) remember that most text books and technical books are updated regularly, and if you buy older ones you may not be getting up to date information. Fiction books, as well as few non-fiction ones are alright to be purchased second hand - as long as they are still in good condition and will be able to last the user at least over ten reads.
